getting role of user

Hi All,

I am working on a CGI script in which I want to retrive role of the user who is trying to update a DCR. i.e I want to achive a role based validation.

I am making use of guest1 account whom I have configured as Author on one of the branch.

when I try to get role of user using "/iw-home/bin/iwckrole -role guest1"
(role - author, admin, editor, master)... against each role I am getting "No"
as an o/p..

whereas when I check this behaviour using "/iw-home/bin/iwuseradm all-roles-of-user guest1" I do get 3 roles in resonce as "Administrator Author Administrator".

Is there any way by which I can get guest1's exact role on my current branch?

Please remember to post information about the product version (including patches and service packs) and OS on which it is installed when you make posts asking questions like this.

In your case, I'm assuming 671 or newer - try using:
iwaccess roles-of-user vpath -user user

my @editorRoles = `$iwhome/bin/iwaccess roles-of-user $branchName -user $currentEditor`;

in my CGI script I tried to retrive roles using this stmt.

But I can't play around individual role. i.e. accessing each role using for loop seems to give me an error....! where as printing @editorRoles gives me length of valid roles... but retriving individual role seems an errror.

Do we need to typecast these CLT returned values?

I'd need to see the code surrounding (especially following) the line you show in order to figure out what's going wrong - perhaps you're forgetting to chomp() the results? - They should be simple string values (as you can see when you run the command from the command line.

With arrays you can usually just do: chomp(@var); and all entries in the array will have trailing newlines removed.

@foundrole = chomp(@editorRoles);
foundrole);

I don't believe you want $iwmount on the argument to iwaccess - as it expects a vpath not a file system path (probably minor, but)
chomp returns the number of characters removed - which is not what you want - you just want to do the last part before you join the contents of @editorRoles. (do not use @foundrole at all - not needed)
