Drop Down Component

Hi all,

I had written a Site Publisher component, in which i want to ask the user to select a value from a exposed drop down, so that it can be used as page metadata for my application.

For the same i had written the following as my Content XML

In Appearance XSL, following was written to retreive the value:

 
{xsl:attribute name="pageDefinitionId" }
 {xsl:value-of select="/Properties/Data/Datum[@Name='Select Page Definition Id']" /}
{/xsl:attribute}

The issue is when i place the component on page and tries to check the value in generated HTML, it displays the concatenated value of all option labels and values.

pageDefinitionId="Dummy11Dummy22Dummy33

Please guide me if i had done anything wrong or have to do some extra?

Yeah, except I think the @Selected has to be on the Option node, so your xpath is something like:

<xsl:value-of select="/Properties/Data/Datum[@Name='Select Page Definition Id']/Option[@Select='true']" />

Thanks to both of you for responding, however none got worked. The only thing change is instead on concatenated value, it is giving a blank.

Your problem is standard XPaths in XSL, which isn't really a LiveSite or SitePublisher issue. In my example, I accidentally left off the Display node at the end of the XPath, so if you want to output the selected node, the XPath should instead be:

/Properties/Data/Datum[@Name='Select Page Definition Id']/Option[@Select='true']/Display

In pseudo-code, that will select the "Display element within a Option element that has a Select= attribute with value 'true' within a Datum element that has a Name= attribute with the value 'Select Page Definition Id' within a Data element within a top-level Properties element."

I'd suggest reading through the W3Schools' XPath Tutorial, and then maybe their XSLT tutorial. It won't take long to go through, and it really helped me in developing LiveSite Components. Then you might use a simple XSL tool to test out your transforms in isolation before using them in SitePublisher. I use a free simple one called xtrans.
