Way to find out how many (which) users that are connected to a DM server?

Hi all,

As the title tell: Is there any way to monitor a DM-server on "what it's actually doing"? I have two DM-servers, and my clients (some 120) are connected "randomly" among those two servers. Therefore I would like a way (tool needed?) to see at a given moment: How many clients are connected to (for example) server A?

Is there any such way?

I've searched through KB but have not been able to find any info on this. This surprises me, because quite often I find that I really "need" that information. For example, to be able to restart a server (Windows patches... puh)

You can log the Logins on the DM Server, but that isn’t going to tell you when a user switches from one server to another in a fail over load balance cluster. There is no logging or statistic that will show you how many users are connected to a given server at any moment. Remember, the DM connection from the client is stateless. It doesn’t maintain the connection to the server. It connects, makes it’s call, and then moves on to the next server in the cluster to make the next call.

This so simple it will make you smile...

The way DM load balancing works means that users are connected to all the servers in a FOLB at the same time. The API switches the connection context between it's 'pool' of connections to give the illusion that it is opening and closing connections. Granted, new connection are opened and closed on servers but the core connections remain the same.

This is great news for us because all we have to do is logon to one of the DM Servers in the FOLB and retrieve a distinct list of Domain/UserID from the security tokens on the DOCSFusion process. A simple way to do this would be to run the Microsoft Sysinternals utility called handle.exe inside a vbscript and parse the output to give a list or count of users....

Put the following VBScript below in the same directory as handle.exe and run it. (Windows 2008 R2 requires Admin CMD prompt):

I use curr ports from nirsoft - its a free download. You could do the same with netstat but its easier in a gui.

You can filter on the docsfusion process and see the open connections from the clients. There will be 2/3 connections per client (dcom) that remain until the user closes their client session.

Its a good way to watch the load for round robin too.
