Edit File Error because of applet settings

Hi ,

I was trying to edit .txt or .cfg file, but was getting the error saying -

"Edit File Error Couldn't launch the application to edit "c:\IWTemp\Workarea\test\one.txt" . The system cannot find the file specified.(Error 2)."

The reason of the error was a setting in my Browser.

inside Tools/Internet Options/Advanced a setting for java(sun) -
Use JRE 1.5.0_10 for applet was "enabled", which should be disabled.

As soon as I disabled it I was able to edit the files.

I am getting this error in IE 7 and Firefox 3.6.8.
The JRE version in IE is 1.6.0_21
The strange fact is the problem is with few files inside a directory, Many other files in the same directory are editable.

Your problem (whatever that is) is with the Editor that you are using to open these Files, not with Files themselves.
Check what App has been configured to open Files with this Extension(s), whether the Path is correct etc...

I wouldn't have suspected it to be the problem with the editor, now since it is happening with IE and firefox for few files only. Other files in the same directory are opening in edit mode with the same editors.

I tried with editplus, textpad, notepad++. I have been using these for many years now, never had this problem. The permission is same on all the files.
