Archival Process and archive folder structure

Hi All,

I am working on defining the archival process for one of my project. But i am not sure about where to create the archival folder. The archive folder should be in teamsite or outsite the teamsite server. Also what should be the fodler structure of the archive folder, is it should be the same as team site content folder structure ?

If the archive folder sits in teamsite then it does not helps in reducing the content size store.

As per my understanding the archival folder should be out of teamsite, but if the business user want to import the archived file to teamsite then for that we have to define a new process.

Please validate my thought and suggest some best practices/important points to consider while designing archival process.

What are the requirements for archival and retrieval?
There are many ways to do archiving, but depending on the retrieval requirements - some of them either won't work or will require additional work to provide for fully functional retrieval.

Also - are you doing archiving on a file-by-file basis or a timeline basis across all files in a given branch?

Thanks for the reply. For the archival ,we have the requirement to archive the expired content after X years of expiration. There is no requiremnt for reterival as of now. The thought about the reterival process was from my side.What put what ever thought and query i had.

We are the proposing the archival process. So i am just trying to collect the best practices and good design so that we can propose a good archival process.

Could you please suggest some good approaches for archival process and there pros and cons?
