content XML in component and contentXML in preview are different

I am kooking at contentXML of a component and there are only 5 tags in there
[html][/html]
When I see the preview of this component and check contentXML in preview then there are way more fields than 5.

In other component its reverse. There are many fields in contentXML of the component but when I see the contentXML in preview, theer are very few fields. Why is it like this ? What causes this transformation of the same section of same component ?

In your example below: what is that External doing? More than likely that External is going out and retrieving some XML content and injecting into the payload for the component to consume. That is what why you are seeing additional elements in preview.

When you are calling an external java class into your component, it will emit some xml which is seen during the component preview. This can not be seen in the content xml of the document.
