404 error on clickthru
System
Perhaps the most common issue with clickthrus is the 404 error. There are two possible causes for this:
1) The clickthru simply isn't implemented correctly and is going to a clickthru "number" that doesn't exist.
2) As a matter of security, clickthrus do not, by default, allow redirection to ANY domains. This means that every clickthru will throw a 404 by default. To allow clickthrus to function, all internal domains for the site must be entered in the internal domains list in the console (this is at the Portfolio level). External site links that are being tracked can be enabled in the whitelist ('Set clickthru domains' at the Subject level). In the event that link domains cannot be anticipated, or in the case of IP addresses that are not resolved by name, this security feature can be disabled (also under 'Set clickthru domains' at the Subject level).

This error can also be caused by "doubling" clickthrus, i.e. the script that redirects links through clickthrus runs twice. As a result, the clickthru will attempt to go to itself (or another clickthru). If optimost.com is in the whitelist, the user will simply be directed through multiple clickthrus. If this is not the case, Optimost will throw the normal 404 error for unallowed domains. This error can be checked by looking at the 'oppost' query-string parameter in the location bar.

Another possible cause of clickthru errors can be unescaped special characters. The escape function can be used to avoid this, e.g.
_newURL = clickThru + ((clickThru.indexOf('?')!=-1)?'&':'?') + 'oplink=' + anchorTAG.href; Incorrect, not escaped
_newURL = clickThru + ((clickThru.indexOf('?')!=-1)?'&':'?') + 'oplink=' + escape(anchorTAG.href); Correct, escaped
