Running CLTs remotely in Teamsite 6.7.2

vikaslohia

HI,

I have a requirement to run the CLTs "iwuseradm" and "iwaccess" from a remote machine fro creating new users. I saw the following article in the ts_671sp1_clt_win_v01_en.pdf documet at page 15.

"Executing CLTs Remotely
If the iw-home directory is visible from the client machine you can run the CLTs from
iw-home/bin without copying them into another location. The CLTs look for the
libraries relative to the directory that contains the program file. For example, if the CLTs
are in the default location (iw-home\bin), they require the NLS libraries to be located
iniw-home\lib\locale.
To run CLTs from a remote system complete the following procedure:
1. Set the environmental variables as described in the previous section.
2. Map a drive to the iw-home directory on the system where the TeamSite server is
installed.
3. Create the following string registry entry on your remote machine:
\\HKLM\Software\Interwoven\TeamSite\iw-home = iw-home
Where iw-home is the absolute path to the mapped iw-home directory. For example:
G:\Program Files\Interwoven\iw-home."

Has anybody tried this before? Does the CLT work from a remote machine?

Rgds,
Vikash

I haven't done it remotely.
I'd double check that requirement and see if you can get it removed - it's far more natural/reasonable/easier to just work directly on the server (either physically in front of it or via a remote window - e.g.: RemoteDesktop [Windows] or telnet/ssh session [Unix])

I tried it just then, but didn't get very far. I added the registry key and set the IWCLT_SERVER environment variable.

I tried to run a iwextattr remotely, but got a connection error.

ERROR:02422: Error connecting to server: ...

Can anyone confirm that the IWCLT_SERVER value is just the network name of the teamsite server?

Ignore my last post, it does work Smiley Very Happy

I was just logged into the machine with my admin account (which is not a TS account) when I tested. When I logged into the machine again with the credentials I use for TS it worked.

Instructions:

1. Map TS root (mine is P Smiley Happy

and file store.

2. Add the environment variables - these are missing from the 671 windows doc, but are in the unix doc.

IWCLT_SERVER - Set to the host name of the TeamSite server (required).
IWCLT_MOUNT - Set to the mount point of TeamSite root
IWCLT_DEFAULTMOUNT - Set to the mount point of the default archive
IWCLT_DEFAULTMAINMOUNT - Set to the mount point of the main TeamSite branch

3. Add the registry key. I am a Mac/Linux guy, so I had trouble doing this, someone else might know the best way to do this. I used these instructions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/yfdfhz1b.aspx to write a JS that could add the key.

var WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell");
WshShell.RegWrite ("HKLM\\Software\\Interwoven\\TeamSite\\iw-home", "P:", "REG_SZ");

I hope that works for you too Smiley Happy
