Issue with Asset retrieving

Hi,

I am trying to retrieve image files with original revision number 0 to local folder using following API call
MBTask task = mbSrv.GetTaskByName("(None)");
string msg = mbSrv.RetrieveFile(assetId, 0, task.mID, null, "c:\\test\\", false);

For certain images this call fails with the exception but succeeds when I specify revisionNumber as '-1'. But I am interested in getting original revision number only. Can you please let me know what could be the possible issue behind this?
What are the other ways of retrieving original revision of any asset?

You might want to add some try-catch blocks to your code and print the error message to a log file or screen. What you are getting now is just an unhandled exception which doesn't tell much.

This is really blocking us. Is there any other way to get the original (raw) image using API call?

Try to run this code and immediately check the mbp.log and net.log on the server to see if that gives any more explanation. Could someone have deleted revision 0 (even that should have given an Image Not Found error)?

Can you post the function that has this part of the code that is erroring out? What IDE are you using? Visual Studio?

As Lyman mentioned can you verify that version 0 actually exists for the assets that you get an error for?

Hi,

Last MB API call in code which throws this exception is RetrieveFile. I have used both VS05,VS08 and .Net2.0
I am do not know how to check ver 0 if really exists through UI. Please let me know if you need any other information.

I have asked you to post your code. You did not do that. So I am not sure what your expectation is in seeking more replies.

You can see if ver 0 exists by going to the image properties and version tab in MB web client.

Did you use the debugger to see what values you are getting in the function while using Visual Studio? Are you getting the asset id and task id and are they correct?

Following is the method being called for retrieving asset from MB. It fails at call mMediaBinServer.RetrieveFile( assetID, revisionNumber, taskID, null, false, out tagID, out jobID);

Also, I have attached webclient error when I try to see the 'History' information. I hope this information is sufficient.

So it looks like there is some issue with that particular image. Do you get the same error for other images (in the script) in which you are NOT getting that error in the UI?

There are many such files having this issue. For problematic images it shows error in UI as well as in API call. Is it some bug in MB? Is there any way we can retrieve rev 0 (original ver) for such files?

I do not believe this is a bug in MB. I think this is something that happened during an upgrade or DB move or something like that where DB records went missing.

Is this your dev server or prod server?
How did you set up this server?
Was it a fresh install and you ingested assets or was a copy made from another server?

You should probably open a support case and go that route to resolve it (if there is any).
