Warning Issue

I am on TS 6.7.1 on Linux, I have a simple perlscript which basically reads an xml file and parses out tags which i wanted. I am getting warning in my script and henceforth cannot use it as inline in my dct. can anyone point me as why this warning occuring at the first place.

Just a guess but I suspect $root_uid has no value.

I always recommend initializing variables when you declare them. If you initialize your variables, you shouldn't get this message.

my $svterm = '';
my $UID = '';
my $root_uid = '';

Also, if you are including the -w or -W flags when running your perl scripts, this will also output additional warnings. While I recommend getting your code to not output any warnings, simply removing the -w/-W will suppress most warnings.

Jeff, '-w' is so "old school" - you should use the pragma: "use warnings;", just under "use strict;" instead ...

Thank you Andy, Jeff and Adam. THe old school thingy worked. I even tried the Strict and warning, system couldn't trace the warning.pm, system threw me this error.

Can't locate warning.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /iw_home/iw-perl/lib /iw_home/iw-perl/site/lib /iw_home/iw-perl/vendor/lib .)

I guess i have to specify the right pathf or the Perl module. I'll try this too.
