How to check for categories when publishing content

We are using WEM8.1 version and have to check whether categories/classification are associated with the content or not before publishing a content.

So when I click on Publish button then it should say categories are not associated with this content (like it says for any unapproved items) and show a warning message. Then the user will associate categories and can try again to publish that content.

Any word or suggestion would be of much help!

There is another way to restrict the user to select the categories/classification. In pre create/update event verify content is approved or not, If its approved then check for categories/classification, If no categories/classification found then throw the exception with your alert msg for adding categories. It will work for all scenario where you need to approve the content

Can not we write jobStart event which will kick off when we publish a content, so whenever user is going to publish any content at that time our event will also check if there is any categories associated to the content, if not then we can throw validation exception. But we just have to restrict this for one type (say News Article Content type) of content and if we write jobStart then how we will get the guid of that content because here we can get the job id.

It won’t work on jobStart event(ref: Extensibility SDK Development Guide). If you still want to try then use the following code:

Hello Trilochan,

I am trying to implement custom PrePersistenceEventListener and it looks like it is not getting called. I did the following.

1. Deployed the jar with custom listener class file at /opt/OpenText/Content/8_1/lib

2. Updated vgnlog.xml file with logger tag which contains the package name.

3. Configured listener in mgmt stage using config console in both the create and update event of PrePersistenceEventListener

4. Changed the log_level to DEBUG at
Configuration Console > Content > Delivery Services > Content Management Stage > Content Delivery Services - mgmt > Deployment Agents > Deployment Agent - mgmt > Deployment Agent Configuration > Log

5. Implemented ContextLogger in custom listener.

Also didnt find my loggers in logs of mgmt stage at.../opt/OpenText/vcm/inst-vgninst/cfgagent/vcm-vgninst/cdsvcs/stage-mgmt/cds-mgmt/cda-mgmt/logs

Am I missing something? Please suggest

Instead of deploying the listener jar like this use configp, follow the following steps:

Select option 1. Connect to VCM Server
Provide the VCM Server host = myHost123
VCM Server port = 27110
VCM Server administrator = AdminUserID
VCM Server administrative password = ************
Follow the instructions and From “Managing Configuration Services” select option 5. Manage Applications
Select option 1. Register Product Extensions
Option 1. Extension
Option 1. JAR Extension Module
Select option 1. Deploy Extension
Provide the JAR Path as /appdata/myfolder/……/<your Jar Name>
Follow the steps to deploy the file.

I deployed the jar as you suggested, but still not getting called when updating any content using content workspace.

I have restarted vcm server and mgmt deployment agent after adding the class in below two events.

Configuration Console > Content > Delivery Services > Content Management Stage > Content Delivery Services - mgmt > Application Services > Events > PrePersistence.Create/Update

Dont know what is missing...

Please help!

I can see the System.out now but any idea why the ContextLoggers are not printing in mgmt logs...do we need to configure some where else?
