Restrict Master access

Dear All,

The business wants to restrict access to some confidential content that will be located in a specific branch/WORKAREA. I can set the appropriate permissions, using the ‘submit.cfg’, but as a Master I can still see the files through the GUI. Note on the server I cannot access the files.

Is it possible, in a simple way, to stop Master accessing files through the TeamSite GUI ?

You might try setting the security on the directory to secure it to the limited group of folks and see if that'll do the trick. We've set it up in the past where we put different security on different directories (via Windows Explorer on the Y Smiley Happy

and it worked but it's a pain to maintain. However, we only restricted based on groups of people who were all authors so no idea if it would work for masters.

However, in my opinion, if a document needs to be that secure where the Masters can't see the files then the file does not belong in a web content management system like TeamSite and should just stay in the lan share/document managament spot it's currently at. Typically, that's our rule with TeamSite. If it needs to be that secure then it doesn't belong in TeamSite.

I think Master have access to all the branches and workareas. Perhaps make those users Administrators instead? Or you can create different roles for the people, and base the directory on the roles.

I don't think it's possible - essentially "Master is ****" and "**** sees All" ;-)
If you cannot trust your Masters to "do the right thing" - perhaps they shouldn't be Masters...

Hi

As Master users own the entire TeamSite Content Server, so they install,configure,manage,create stores and as well as user administration.All the major activities are being maintained and governed by Master Users.

So It is not possible to restrict there access.

What ghoti has told is absolutely correct and give a real sense of Master Role.

Master role should be given to two or three persons in the project to do Team site Administration activities. I hope, you has given lots of persons to master access in your team. Instead of master access try to give administrator access to them.

Firstly thanks everyone for you input as it has been a great help. I have combined all your input and come to the conclusion that there must be an element of trust on Masters. If the bussiness cannot trust the Masters then don't load the content into TeamSite.
