Exporting/Importing DSM/DPM sites in WEM8.5

Hi All,

Do anybody know if we can use the same 7.3 export/import process for exporting DSM/DPM sites from one env to another env or do we have any new procedure in 8.5. Is there any KB about it. I had searched all KB and did not find anything specific about WEM8.5

Any help is really appreciated.

Hi Srini,

By using WEM Motion tool you can migrate all content (including site and it’s related template assets) from one environment to another without any issues. You need an license for Motion tool.

WEM 8.5 supports following for export/import:

1. OpenText Transfer Tool

2. OpenText Motion

3. Standard vgnexport/vgnimport

For moving from one env to another the Transfer Tool is recommended. This creates an automation script to duplicate an entire WEM instance on another WEM server (think of this like "cloning" a WEM instance for purposes of upgrade/migration for example).

OpenText Motion is a more granular tool that has a nice UI for handling migration and upgrade projects.

You can still use vgnexport/vgnimport but this is probably best for copying content, sites, channels, etc. from one instance to another (not best tool for upgrade or big migration projects where OpenText Motion is the recommended tool).

Have you tried to vgnexport the site right away?

The KB you mention is required because of a flaw in WEM references system. This flaw was solved in 7.6.

A direct export/import should work but if your site is big or you plan to do this a lot you should consider Motion.

I haven't tried the site export, I will try now and will post my feedback

I haven't used VTT, because we need to export/import site by site not complete WEM. We are not licensed for Motion Tool.
