Unable to Start OD Base Server

Hi All,

i am trying to start OD base server on Solaris Machine. it is throwing this error.

ENG: 2009-06-02 13:59:26 IST GMT+05:30 Receiver-side handshake timeout = 120 secs
ENG: 2009-06-02 13:59:26 IST GMT+05:30 ***ERROR - Session Listener failed binding on [null:20014] exiting...
SVR: 2009-06-02 13:59:26 IST GMT+05:30 ***ERROR - OpenDeploy engine component encountered error.
SVR: 2009-06-02 13:59:26 IST GMT+05:30 ERROR DETAILS:
Session Listener failed binding on [null:20014]
SVR: 2009-06-02 13:59:26 IST GMT+05:30 Bring up of OpenDeploy server FAILED.

Can anyone please help me out.

OD cannot open port 20014, there may be a conflict. You can try to determine if something is on that port and remove it, or configure OD to use a different port.

On Unix you can use netstat to find out what is on port 20014.

i checked the 20014 port using netstat -an | grep 20014, but its not giving any result.

i captured the netstat -an output in a file and attaching the same, please have a look and help me out.

Looks like the hostname of the machine is missing in odbase.xml, ideally it shouldn't say null:20014, it should point to the hostname.

Check if the hostname is mentioned in the odbase.xml

Are all of them "up" ?

root@RAVI-SUN # prtconf -D | grep network
network, instance #0 (driver name: ce)
network, instance #1 (driver name: ce)

root@RAVI-SUN # ifconfig -a
lo0: flags=2001000849 mtu 8232 index 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
ce0: flags=1000843 mtu 1500 index 2
inet 10.112.77.241 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.112.77.255
ether 0:14:4f:50:eb:9

I think there are two NIC's up and running, can you please have a look and help me out.

You have 2 NICs (ce0 and ce1) but only one is up (ce0). The other listed is the loopback

Check your hosts file to see what IP is in use for RAVI-SUN it may not be 10.112.77.241

There is a support article (and should be in OD manuals) about using OD on a multi-NIC system. Also talk to your Solaris Admin as to why you have 2 NICs but only one is live

Can you use the IP address in place of hostname in odbase.xml
and also make the below change in deploy.cfg:

#Deploy.rmiServerBind: hostname
to
Deploy.rmiServerBind:IP.

The issue was related to /etc/nsswitch.conf file. in solaris need to define hosts details in nssswitch.conf file like this
hosts: files dns nic

In AIX or Linux you need to define /etc/netsvc.conf file
Hosts = local

After changing this my OD base is up and runing.
