Copy DCR/Folder

I want to copy a dcr or folder within the same workarea. While copying external attributes should not be lost.

Can any one tell me the way to do that?

If you copy a dcr, it will not lost External attributes.

Try with sample dcr.

A workarea acts as a folder and as per me, you could not copy a file or folder of the same folder within itself.

You can anyways do so by chaging the name of the file or copying it to different folder. In case you need to copy on different workarea, use iwupdate.

Need to use teamsite "copy" functionality, it allows you to copy content within workarea (also you retain EA)

If you're asking how to do it programatically, use 'iwcp '.

You should look in the iw-home/bin folder. A lot of the unix commands are also in there, but with an iw in front.

If yes then write an ipl file in which call clt iwupdate.
put a cgi task and call that ipl file.

You can also achieve this using external task.

So, try as that is confort for you.

You just need to put an external script in your workflow ... which can use any of the previously mentioned commands by different users. E.g. iwcp / cp / iwupdate etc

All commands have their own benefits and limitations, so before using any read more about it or state your requirements more clearly.

If iwupdate works, you can do it a bit more compactly by using an updatetask instead of an externaltask or cgitask. Although quite frankly I just tried using iwupdate from the command line and couldn't seem to get the arguments to be accepted to do the same thing I did previously using the Edit > Copy menu.

I suppose one might have to use an externaltask, cgitask, or urltask (671+), generate a complete list of individual files and then use iwcp for each of them (or the Java equivalent)

Or you could use OD with EA transfer enabled - seems a bit heavy-handed, but in the long run it might be quicker/faster to do it that way.

Perhaps the rationale / requirement behind this "need" could be explained in more details - there might be a much easier way to accomplish what is being attempted.
