VFE | Getting file size of target document for hyperlink

Hi,

We need to embed hyperlinks in VFE. Our requirement is to display the size of target document (to which the hyperlink points) on website page next to the link .

For e.g.,

Fact Sheet (PDF, 177403k)

I know that this can be done if we are capturing the link in a separate field ( browse item).

Can we get the size of document if it is present in VFE ?

If i am understanding your query correctly , Yes you can do this. You need to parse the contents of VFE first and then decide for which all links you want to display the file size. Once you get the files and their complete path, you can easily get their size in Perl using the -s operator.
E.g. my $filesize = -s "sample.pdf";

After you get the file size using perl, generate the file accordingly and deploy that to the web site.

To add to the above - the suggestion being made, I believe, involves performing this processing and augmentation in the PT - so you won't see the results in the DCR / VFE, but you should see it when you do a Preview.

You might be able to do this via a FormAPI callServer (onItemChange event or perhaps onSave), where you could modify the contents of the VFE field - but you have to deal with the asynchronous behavior and that the process won't happen unless the actual onItemChange event is fired off or you do it when you perform the save)

Is there a way in which as soon as we save the DCR, at that point the size of document should appear next to document link in VFE ?

This way I can directly read the content of VFE and display on page (this content will have the size information).
