[BUSY] workareas

I posted this question earlier, but it was embedded as part of a bigger question so I thought I'd strip it out here. Does anyone know what it means when Teamsite puts the text "[BUSY]" next to a workarea name (when viewing the contents of a branch)? I see this fairly regularly, but then it seems to come and go randomly and I haven't figured out what causes it.

I believe you'll see that when a lengthy bulk operation is taking place in that WA, such as a big submit, update, etc.

Bob is right - you can run iwstat -c to see what is happening....

When such an operation is taking place, what impact does that have on other Teamsite operations (i.e. creating/saving a DCR, browsing files, previewing files, etc.)? I'm a little fuzzy on how well Teamsite does multi-threading tasks. It seems like on our box, we get the "[BUSY]" fairly regularly, and when it happens all of Teamsite seems to skid to a crawl.
BTW, iwstat shows operations taking place (some fairly large) but the server is far from pegged. CPU usage (4 processors) isn't near maxed -- usually around 40 percent. Unless Teamsite doesn't handle threading well, it seems odd that it slows down when the server isn't maxed out.

TeamSite servers are usually performance-bound by I/O rather than CPU. If you monitor your backing store's activity, you will probably see it maxed out, rather than your CPU.

What method do you recommend to monitor back stores activity?

Sorry, I personally have no recommendations, since I know little of core system administration. But, I imagine that there are tools out there that allow you to monitor disk, network, and/or CPU activity/throughput.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
