iwextattr syntax fine in command line, not so much in perl.

This is my first time working with iwextattr.

I just want to set the value of "DependendFiles" in the extended attributes (in this case, set it to 'WHATEVER').

I can run it from the command line and set the EA just fine, but when i run it as a system call from perl, nothing happens and I'm not sure how to trace where the error is occurring.

The code is in a .tpl and is called when the page is generated.

It simply returns "0"

Here's how I'm dumping the command (I've never done it before, so it might be wrong...)

just use


print MYFILE "$iwhome\\bin\\iwextattr -s  \"TeamSite/Templating/DependentFiles=WHATEVER\" \"$targetFile\"";

The 0 you received should have been the return from the system call, which implies it worked.

I'm an idiot.

There was some copied and pasted code from the previous developer down below in my code that I didn't know about.

It was setting the attribute I was setting to a blank value.

Thanks for the help, at least I know I was doing it correct from the start, right? Smiley Happy

OK, there was a thread about this a few days ago. If iwpt_compile has the file open, you *may* not be able to set the EA while it is being written to. Also, if the file does not exist, then it will fail as well.

Try this for fun.

create a temp file in the same folder as the aspx, change your script to change the EA on the temp file not the aspx. See if it worked. That will tell you if I am correct.

Finally, this begs the question of why you are doing this ? You already have the primary DCR, TPL and tempalte type as EA, what additional information are you trying to garner ?
