Programmatically set a display view to content component and associate it with a channel page

We have a presentation template that has been associated with all the channel pages in our wem 8.1 environment. All the regions and content components except one are are template scoped and set from the template.
There is one region in the template which is page scoped and are supposed to be set from page. When we set the display view of the component associated with page scoped region from the floatie tools available on the preview page, it works fine. When we programmatically try to set the display view of the same component, it sets that display view to all the pages associated with the same template.
Can you please look into this issue?

Interesting, I ran into this recently.

You have to create Instance page first, you are changing the region on the template. Create an instance page, associate it to the template, then create a region and associate that too. Then, changing the region is page scoped. I'd have to look at my code to be more specific, but that's generally what you have to do.

Mithun,

If you already know you need to work at page level (channel) then why are you going in template object. any chnage you make to template and it refrences will impact all the pages which use the template.

Just work with the Page object, Inside it you will find reference to the region and then from there you will find refrence to the component which you need to modify.

Mithun,

Also wanted to clarify the concept of scope for you.

Scope can only be defined for a Region and not a component. Also there are to possible state for scope Locked / Unlocked.

Older version of VCM used concept of template scope (pre VCM 7.6) which has been discontinued in favor of Locked / Unlocked concept, which have some similarity to older model but is much more flexible and diffrent.

I have modified my method to create a content component first and then associate it with similarly created region object. While region component gets created properly, QueryContentComponent object gives following error when newInstance() method is called.

I forgot to mention that the content type that is having this issue is a smart list with a custom java class. newInstance() method called on out of the box ContentSelectComponent does not throw the error mentioned in the previous post.
