Search results from multiple workareas

Can search be configured to return results from mutiple workareas in a branch?

I know that if I search at the branch level my return is from content in staging. If I search from within a workarea (in a branch with multiple workareas) then my results are from the workarea I am in when I initiate the search.

What my users would like to be able to do with search is determine which workareas a file may be in. Is search configurable to allow a search at the branch level and return results from all workareas in that branch?

You can see from my attachment that I do not have that selection. I am trying to find out how to provide this selection and how to assure that selecting it will search across branches. Do I start with changing search_custom.xml?

I don't recall but perhaps this feature to "search across workareas/branches" was introduced in TS 6.7.1 SP1 or later. I am not quite sure. Please check the TS admin guide for your version of TS.

That feature is in 6.7.2 as well. Why would you want to customize something that would just be done for you if you simply upgraded your TS version?

Because I can customize before I can schedule an upgrade and because I love doing things the hard way. :-)

If the version that you are using does not support cross workarea/branch search (and I am not sure which version introduced this feature) then I don't think you can customize it. It is not just a UI feature -- its the indexer and the actual search application itself.

Search is via CSSDK, but the GUI is not. I remember in GearUp 06 Sunil talking about the CSSDK supporting mulitbranch search before the GUI.

So if you want to write your own GUI. :rolleyes:
