Portal / Tempo Social question

Hi,

We have Tempo Social 8.5.1 instance. When opening a site we have 3 navigation menus - Home, Communities, My Profile.

Under Home there are some default portlets including Feeds in the middle. Under Communities menu there are all communities listed.

How can I include "Communities list" under Home page? I tried to include several portlets but none of them worked.

Is this possible with configuration or needs programming?

You are using is the Social Workplace site template. It is intended to be used a pre-configured site/solution.

Here's some information from the Release Notes:

"The Social Workplace site template represents a full-featured example of a community-oriented site that showcases how to manage multiple social groups. The Social Workplace site has no primary navigation because it is community- oriented and activity-oriented. Due to the tight integration of social features and applications in a Social Workplace template-based site, we do not recommend customization beyond changing the site theme and application views as detailed in the OpenTextTempo Social Developer Guide"

the templates are nice and can be changed but to do this you will need to:

1. when adding a new social application portlet to the page make sure that you set the "strategy" for that portlet to either "automatic", "manual", or "standalone".

2. You should also make sure that the page you're modifying is not already assigned to a page template (which is "mapped" that is hard-coded to show specific apps.

3. Clear your browser cache (as the template-based apps will still "appear").

Best practice:

In my view, it's much easier to use the "blank" template and build the pages as you wish using either "page" or "app" from the social workspace. You can also create new templates (there are 5 or 6 out of the box but they are not really intended to be used for production sites - as Mitchell has pointed out).

Avoid using the Portal console to do this as it requires several manual configurations that are not needed when using the Social Workspace to build and modify sites and pages.

Thank you both for your input.

I'm currently looking for "easy" way to add portlet to an existing "Home" page so that it would show all communities within this site (basically what see under Communities page). From what I can see and understand portlet "Community List - Stap" only shows communities when under Communities page.

Is this possible through configuration?

I don't have much information on customizing Portal yet.
