Web CMS (TeamSite)
Content to handheld
sef
hi all!
does anybody know if there is a current api or solution on Teamsite to deliver content to pda's (similar to open deploy) for synchronizing the content? I've read about some partnerships with AlterEgo, EveryPath, etc. and about the aquisition of Neonyoyo but dont know if they are already offering a solution either as part of the teamsite suite (templating, opendeploy) or sold as separate product..
Thanks in advance!

Just to be clear (since without that, I'm not sure if the question can be answered)...
Are you talking about:
1) being able to connect to TeamSite via a PDA to edit, do templating, etc.?, or
2) being able to deploy assets to a PDA's local 'disk'?, or
3) being able to generate content or variants of content (through TeamSite Templating) specifically designed to be read on PDA's ?

We are interested in the third option -- ie producing output suitable for a PDA. Our corporate website would then be available to users with PDA/handhelds.
Any help or experience with that?

If you use TeamSite Templating, you can develop presentation templates that write out PDA-formatted files (WMA? WML? or something like that, can't remember) - this is pretty much at the core of the whole XML thing: You have all the content in one place, and then you use a utility (presentation templates in this case) to format the content for the specified target device. You can even choose to skip some content from being presented because the medium it is being sent to simply wouldn't be able to do it justice.
I don't know enough about writing files for PDA display - I'm assuming that it's not just pure-HTML (for some definition of "pure") - but if you know how it is supposed to be written, it's the same as generating any other kind of ascii file with Templating.

There was that TeamSite add-on for producing (well, previewing) multi-channel content (OpenChannel? I've only skipped past it in docs), but it was phased out.
To be honest using templating you could create WML files very easily. Incidentally WML is quite different from HTML, and is actually targeted at cellphones. If I were you I'd probably have a WML template and a stripped-down HTML template for PalmOS/WinCE PDAs, which tend to have more advanced rendering than cellphones. You've probably already looked at AvantGo but if not, I'd definitely take a look at them.
The problem you'll have is when content is tied to things like external JavaScript functions, Flash files and so on, although as Ghoti pointed out you can omit content that is not suited to the medium.
Whether it's worth the effort is another question - the number of people using handhelds to visit corporate sites is miniscule right now, unless you're in a niche which caters to that market.
Hope that's of some use.

I had to help (at
www.qantas.com
) to produce some PDA-friendly code.
it's not much in it - you basically try yo use as less of bytes as possible, sometimes having to resort to a non-XML compliant HTML. Less tables, etc. Don't forget that PDAs use HTML - not WML or anything like that
As the other are saying - take a look at stripped-down versions of, say CNN or BBC or something like that for PDAs.. and you will have a basic understanding of what is required.
