When you say you want to pass, does it mean you want to edit another dcr and save the value in a field there or set the value as an external attribute?
You can achieve that by formapi as Greg said.
Please state your environment too.

Ya i will be editing the second DCR and saving it, so while saving it the number passed from first DCR should be saved in the second.

Can anyone help me in this, am still not able to get a solution for this.

For setting a value in another dcr, either you need to have an item in the second dcr where you can set this value, or you can update an existing item by appending to it or, whatever. You can achieve this by using callserver on save of your first dcr. Refer to the formapi docs for more info on the callserver functionality.

FWIW, I would consider changing the the requirement a bit. Instead of pushing a value from DCR1 to DCR2, have DCR2 read DCR1 for this information. DCR2 will only need it during a WF or iwpt_compile (depending on how you use the data) and you can easily open DCR1, grab the value and use it. Implementing this approach would be simple to do and *should* cover all of your use cases.

Your idea is pretty good and simple. It made me think a few scenarios.

Availability of dcr1 when dcr2 is used in workflow
Whether dcr2 will be used in workflow at all
The constant number is user input or any auto-generated sequence
Mapping of dcr2 to dcr1 dynamically, etc

Rasheed should give it more thought and decide what is suitable for him.

well I too thought the same, as I am not able to implement using the earlier scenario. The value (constant) is an auto generated random number, in DCR1.

Regarding WF, it is not an issue as it will get initiated when both the DCR's get saved.

Another thing is that am already using one or more callServer's in my DCR so if I have to parse another DCR then that might effect the implementation speed. So am stil trying to find a solution for this.

Could you please let me know hoe to call the other DCR from one DCR(via JS or IPL file).

the best thing is to write a perl script that will use TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRNode to parse the DCR. Once you know how to callServer then what's left is to parse the DCR and take the value out of it Smiley Happy

why not set it as an Extended Attribute (like mentioned earlier) instead of parsing the XML, it will surely be more light-weight..?

as for editing the DCR, though I am not sure I agree with the approach, here is some code that should get you started
