Has the behaviour of group task changed in WFM1010? Earlier, as far as I remember, if someone from the group takes the ownership of a group task then other members can not perform any action on that task. Now what I have observed is even if one member takes the ownership, other members are able to send the control to the successor task. Is that a bug?

It seems a bug with group task. There was a bug with group task earliar too. So, Interwoven should look into it.
