8.5 Custom Widget

Hi all,

I made a custom widget for 8.5 MyPage, extending VCMTextWidget. The widget renders in MyPage, I can add text to it and it's marked as "Dirty". Meaning the system prompts me to save after entering text. The only problem is that it never saves. This same code works in 8.1, is there anyone out there that knows of some simple examples or any insights into why Saving a custom widget content wouldn't work. I'm using similar code to "Sample Extensions for WEM 8.5.zip" and this has me stumped... btw- no log errors.

What do you mean by “custom widget for My Page” ? Nobody can help you if you don’t provide detailed information and possibly the widget code…

No worries. I got it working.

It is concerning that someone from OpenText doesn't understand "custom widget for My Page".

You do know that we still have to create a V7 extension facade, register it in configconsole, set the CTD to use it, then map it in a JAR via XML config files right?

It would be nice if the Sample zip included those files for creating configconsole entry. fyi

I don’t understand why you are so polemic.

It is evident that you don’t know who I am, otherwise you would have approached me in a more respectful way.

I offered you help, and asked you for more information to better understand your problem and the context in which the issue shows up.

I am an engineer, not a magician, and I am not ashamed to say again that “custom widget for My Page” doesn’t mean anything to me.

When you say “the widget renders in My Page” you probably mean the widget renders in an editor in V8 mode, so next time, if this is the case please use a clearer terminology.

It is also evident that saying “the only problem is that it never saves” is so vague that there might be 1000 reasons for this to occur.

Said that, next time please provide enough information if you want to get some help. And, which is more important, if one of the top UI engineer asks you to send your code and gives availability to waste his time in reviewing it just say “thank you”.

Hi,

I’m not sure what specific file caused the issue but I willlook further. I changed my approach, andthat is how I got this to work.

This is for a custom widget renderer in My Page – I apologizeif that was unclear. Mario - Myapologies for any frustration I caused and Thank You for your time. Your input is very valuable.

Originally, I took a text widget that I created for 8.1 MyPage and tried to get it to work in 8.5. The widget was rendering correctly, and I could insert text and thesystem would prompt me to Save changes. Unfortunately, it never saved the text from the text box.

So I changed my approach by going here and referencing thesamples for 8.5.

Specifically, I looked at these XML files: sample-widget-renderers.xml,sample-widget-maps.xml, sample-widget-transformers.xml, sample-widget-renderers.xml,and sample-themes-render.xml. They looka little different than my 8.1 files.

I also looked at the WAR files: body.jspf, footer.jspf, header.jspf, render.jsp,and validator.jspf.

All of the above looked slightly different than my 8.1 filestoo, but I think it’s mostly header.jspf that caused my error.

I combined and changed the sample files for what I wanted todo with my custom 8.1 files. Then, setupthe V7 container classes and /configconsole entry for a Customer WidgetExtension. Then, I was able to configurea test CTD with the new widget that was registered in /configconsole.

Finally, I tested it and it successfully saved the text Iinserted. I believe there was a problemwith either the XML, or one of the WAR files.
