Problem saving a form due to FormAPI

Hi,

I am trying to set the value of two fields when another item within a replicant item is changed. The Form API code works fine but when I save the form it throws the error:

"Save was unsuccessful. Invalid category/type null was received."

Here is the code


function setDefaultImageDimensions(item){  

 align = item.getValue();  
 if(align == 0){ height = 150; width = 48; } 
 else if(align == 1){height = 156; width = 86;}

 heightItem = IWDatacapture.getItem(item.getName()+'/../Height');          
 heightItem.setValue(height);  

 widthItem = IWDatacapture.getItem(item.getName()+'/../Width');   
 widthItem.setValue(width); 

}

Everything works fine when I remove the above code.

Any help is appreciated.

Here is the code to setup the event handler.


function init()
{
 IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/Extended_Profile/Overview/Item/Image_Details/Align","OnItemChange", setDefaultImageDimensions);

}

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init());

This syntax looks incorrect to me -

heightItem = IWDatacapture.getItem(item.getName()+'/../Height');

widthItem = IWDatacapture.getItem(item.getName()+'/../Width');

I think you should use regex to extract the parent item name from item.getName() and then you should concatenate it.

Your Syntax is formally correct. It does not however mean that every Item processed by this Handler really
has Height and Width sibling Items. Encapsulate the processing into try/catch bracketing and show the error
if any. Like this:

try {
   // Your Code here
} catch (err) {
   alert(err.description);
}

This syntax is correct. getName()+"/../someSibling" works, I use it all the time.

Now if there is no sibling this will error out badly when you try to set the value, so follow Bo's advice.

Ok. Support provided the following solution and it worked.

heightItem.setValue(height.toString());
widthItem.setValue(width.toString());

Just the values needed to be converted to a string.

We are also facing the same error. Following is the FormAPI code -
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSave",SaveHandler);
function SaveHandler()
{
alert("Hello");

var item = IWDatacapture.getItem("/rootContainer/Metadata/cnt Metadata/itmName");
var area=IWDatacapture.getWorkarea();
item.setValue(area.toString());
return true;
}

I tried try catch and it returned : "Null" is null or not an object.
The very same code was working earlier. Any pointers?

Which of those variables is null? Did you try putting alerts to see the values of item and area?
