Searching Static File versions?

We might have a possible business requirement to search across Static File versions. In that light does anyone know if this functionality even remotely available in WEM?

If not I wonder if there is an Autonomy APIs available so we could index versions upon publishing and then retrieve them from index using some kind of custom code? I didn't find much on search indexing in official WEM 8.1 API.
