How to implement custom ContentInstanceInitializer (can't get it to work)

Hi,

I created a class that extends ContentInstanceInitializer and I also created a class that extends ObjectInitializerRegistry. I specified my custom ObjectInitializerRegistry in the WEM variables and committed it. I configp'd the jar and restart the WEM server. However, I don't see any of the log messages from my class going to the logs. Does anyone have any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?

This class is not used anymore. It has been substituted by the ContentInstanceBuilder.

Which version are you and what do you want to do ?

Hi Mario,

We are on 8.5 SP1. Basically, I just need to exclude one attribute when cloning. For example, when a person selects a content item and clones it, I want to just exclude one attribute from the newly cloned item.

What you have to do is the following. I assume that you have a content type having xml name “myContent” and an attribute “myAttribute” in it which you don’t want to clone. If you don’t want to clone that attribute, I assume that you want to give a custom value, so all you have to do is to deploy a class like this

import com.vignette.as.client.common.builder.ContentInstanceBuilder;

import com.vignette.as.client.exception.ApplicationException;

import com.vignette.as.client.exception.AuthorizationException;

import com.vignette.as.client.exception.ValidationException;

import com.vignette.as.client.javabean.ContentInstance;

import com.vignette.as.client.javabean.ManagedObject;

* This is a sample ContentInstanceBuilder customization for the content type MyContent

public class MyContentBuilder extends ContentInstanceBuilder{

private static final String ATTR_NAME = "myAttr";

@Override

protected ContentInstance update(ManagedObject mo) throws ApplicationException, AuthorizationException, ValidationException {

ContentInstance ci = super.update(mo);

ci.setAttributeValue(ATTR_NAME, "any value");

Be aware that:

<![if !supportLists]>- <![endif]>The package *must* be com.vignette.ext.builder

<![if !supportLists]>- <![endif]>Be aware that the xml name of the content type is transformed into a class name using the method ObjectTypeData.convertXmlNameToJavaClassName(xmlName) and appending the “Builder” suffix.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the information. I created the class and configp'd it. Is there anything else that I need to do to implement it? I'm not seeing the class getting called when I clone the item. The one thing interesting is our CTD has underscores '_' in the name. I'm not sure if that causes an issue.

Eric, the name of the class is built from the xmlName of the content type using the following algorithm

String className = “com.vignette.ext.builder.” + ObjectTypeData.convertXmlNameToJavaClassName(xmlName) + “Builder”;

To make sure of the name you should do to your custom builder you might wish to run the piece of code above in your IDE.

By the way, the rules applied to the xml name are:

<![if !supportLists]>_-<![endif]>First character converted to uppercase

<![if !supportLists]>_-<![endif]>“-“ converted to “_”

So, if you content type is called MY_CONTENT_TYPE, the custom builder class is

com.vignette.ext.builder.MY_CONTENT_TYPEBuilder

If your class is not being called it has not being deployed properly

Mario and I resolved it over PM. Basically, the mistake that I made was not matching the class name case. So, I needed MY_CTDBuilder as the class name since the XML name was MY_CTD.
