formapi and setValue problem

Hello I am trying to have a hidden text item called sequence number inside a replicant(replicant with min="1").when ever the form is loaded the first repli's sequence number is set to 1 and whenever i add replicant, the sequence number in the second repli is set to 2 so on...

The problem is the functionality is working fine, but when i am trying to save this form, its not saving(its like taking for ever). it does not even give me some erro. i dont know the reason.

In the formapi documentation, i have read that setValue() are not applicable for containers or replicant. Is that true, Is this could be the reason why my form is not saving?..........and if so, can anyone tell me some other way to setValue for the it.

You are right but it works for text, textarea, hidden, select, radio. So as you mention that you have a text item naming Sequence_Number then it should works on this.

I think the problem is with init(), you have to first register the init method outside the code:
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init);
It would be possible to simply call the init function; however, doing so risks that the form has not completed initialization, and some or all of the items the user script code will try to modify may not have been completely created.

Also commented the setVisible() and check out what happens.

Use firefox to debug the javascript. In the tools menu item use Error Console to see if you have any errors.

If not then you should take training or go through the Tutorial.

As your attached DCT file is not a valid file. There are lots of issues with DCT.

* Each item tag should have pathid attribute. Like this:

IWDatacapture.getItem("/productfamily/global_id_jajp").setValue("2");

* There is not any available item with name global_id_jajp

So, I think you should first correct your DCT and check it, if you encounter any problem then post your query.

It was my oversight while verifying the DCT that it is on "iwov" or "xml". I assumed that it is a "xml" based.

Excuse me - you posted a DCT which was not properly coded, and (as best that I can recollect) this is the first time in this thread that you declared that it was [supposed to be] in "xml" format - so don't blame us if we get confused by your failure to post correct information. If the DCT you posted is what you are using - then you need to fix it before we can even begin to theorize about what might be causing the problems you were having, since the problems you were having could, quite easily, be caused by an improperly written DCT.

That is what I assumed - but without seeing the resultant code of that inline call in the DCT code you posted - it made it difficult to see what field you were trying to reference.

So if you're still having problems - I suggest you post the real DCT code, the output of the inline call, and updates (if any) to your FormAPI code - and then maybe we can figure out what's happening. Better yet, streamline the DCT and FormAPI code to just demonstrate the problem - making sure that you can replicate it easily in your environment.

If you don't want to take the effort to communicate clearly with us - why should we take the time to try to help you?

A better question is, why are you even trying to add a hidden sequence number to the container replicant? Anything parsing the XML should be able to determine the sequence number.
