Overriding button?

Hello, we were successful in adding new button to Content Workspaces already. Now we would like to change a behavior of "Start Workflow" out-of-the-box one. Does anyone know if it is possible in theory? Does framework allow that? We would most likely use our custom theme for that.

We'd like to launch our custom workflow by clicking on this button and avoid a couple of Wizard steps there. There is a JSP that launches our workflow, so we'd launch that upon button click.

I don’t think that this will be feasible my friend. The publish wizard is a complex task and you cannot just skip a couple of steps. I would stay away from these kind of customizations.

Under which circumstances you want to launch your custom jsp ?

Thank you Mario,

We have a shared WEM. We already have a button in Content Area grid, which launches custom workflow only for users of a certain group (based on a custom capability). For the rest of the users when they click on this button it says "Unauthorized". The custom workflow launcher is a custom JSP in a custom web-app, which fills out WF name and other data and launches the process, without having user to fill out any details.

We now would like users of that group to launch that custom workflow from Content Editor. Default wizard looks kind of complex and they might mess things up, so just for them we'd like to launch custom workflow JSP describe above and for the rest of the users send them through default WF wizard process. Having one more button on Content Editor is also an option, however I'm not sure if users of other groups will like this unnecessary (for them) piece.

So let me understand, you would like to substitute the workflow button in the editor to launch your custom JSP, correct ? As an alternative you would be also happy to add an extra button in the editor toolbar.

I think that the easiest thing to do here is to put in place an overrides for the click handler of the start workflow button. In the override you should call an api to check if the current user belongs to the desitred group and in the handler, according to the response, laiunch either your jsp or the std. wizard.

Can you do all this ? Can you write and deploy an AJAX API in our framework or do you need guidance ?

I think I can do this. Isn't it overriding button definition in a custom JS file, re-registering it and then including this JS file?
