using <Option>

When I am using option in the select tag, it has three attributes. I can provide label ="Chicago, IL". Now I can provide the value="IL" and if I dont provide anything in the value field, what happens ? Does it take the value as "Chicago, IL" because value is implied ?
My confusion is with "implied". When the attribute is implied, where does it get its value from ?

Please clarify your question.

If I dont put anything in value attribute or dont include value attribute at all while using option tag, what value will be assigned to value attribute ?

vpatel

I would guess - it'll be empty (null) or just "".

rajivgupta

it will be a null value in that case

value attribute is "implied" , what does that wean ? Does it mean it will pick some value from other field , if not provided ? What does "implied" mean ?

Implied means that the attribute is optional.
The software that utilizes the DTD may either ignore its absence or assign a default value for the attribute in the absence of an explicit assignment.

In this case, I believe that if label is required and value is implied, then value would default to the contents of label by default (or vice versa) - however, it seems to be that it would be incredibly easy to test this and find out through empirical evidence and answer the question yourself.
