Hi *,

at the moment I create Pages (Dynamic Site) for Channels with the static method Page.create(java.lang.String channelVCMId, java.lang.String templateId)

Now I have a case where I'd like to associate an existing Page with other Channels too:

Is it possible to associate one Page with several Channels or is this a one to one relation?
How can I add such a relation? Or if this isn't possible is there any way to clone a Page without having to iterate over every region, copying every content instance, etc. ?

The Page – Channel relation is strictly 1-1 and is implementing by assuming that the pk value of a page equals the content management id of the corresponding channel.

Why do you need to do this programmatically ? Using the copy/paste channel in preview ot the clone channel in the workspaces is not enough for you. Both clone the presentation page for the new channel

I have done this in the past. The req was essentially to take existing pages - copy them - and assign them to a new site with a new template association. I remember getting hung up on the regions. I had to copy the page, copy all the regions, then change the region component smartlists to look at a new channel for the query.

1. I think this IS one to one for a page. Mario confirmed.

2. you have to iterate over the regions and make new ones and assign them to the new page. At least, that's what my code did. I essentially created a new folder in /VgnExtTemplating/System/ContentInstancePages/**** so I could find them easily while confirming the process.

The new cloner does all this for free. You should be able to deep clone the page with a few lines of code.

I would like to know on which release are you, Frank, since the new cloner has been introduced and improved at a certain point.

Hi Mario and William,

thank you for your answers. We are using Web Experience Management 10.5+Cumulative (2015-06-03 20:59:46 GMT) and we are migrating from another CMS where we have something like 1:n relation between pages and channels. There are >200 pages from this type so it would be great if we could use something like the cloner you mentioned Mario, are you refering to the ContentInstanceCloner? This is the only one I found in the Javadocs and it sounds promising. I'll try that and keep you updated.

If I fail with this approach I'll do the cloning like you suggested William, thank you for that!

The ContentInstanceCloner is deprecated and you should *NOT* use it. The right API to use is the following

String sourcePageId = sourceChannel.getContentManagementId().getId();

Page page = Page.findById(sourcePageId);

if(page != null) {

VgnExtPageBuilder pageBuilder = (VgnExtPageBuilder)BuilderFactory.getInstance(page.getContentManagementId());

pageBuilder.setPageId(targetChannel.getContentManagementId().getId());

pageBuilder.setPublishDate(null);

pageBuilder.setUnpublishDate(null);

pageBuilder.setManagedObjectStatus(ManagedObjectStatus.UNAPPROVED);

Page targetPage = pageBuilder.build();

targetPage.commit();

}

Consider that you cannot create a page if you don’t have a channel to which the page is assigned, therefore in the code fragment above I assume that you want to clone the page of the Channel sourceChannel and assign it to the Channel targetChannel.

Please remember that you *cannot* have a 1-n relationship between pages and channels
