I am not sure if your inline command is calling some Perl/Java/or something else. But whatever you are using try to just output all of the input parameters being passed automatically to that inline command. See if there is anything that you can use to get whatever information you need.

If you can't make this work with an inline command, you can sure get all of that information for a CallServer which you can call "on form init".

This will fetch Template Data Type which will be of the form

var wkArea = parent.gWorkarea;

Considering he was referencing an inline, he likely needs it in Perl not JS. Your code works fine in FormAPI but not an inline.

Besides nipper's comment - the above code is, I believe, an old hack and not the supported interface for retrieving those values in FormAPI - you might want to re-read the FormAPI manual before attempting to use that code.
