How to install MySQL drivers for IWPERL?

TeamSite: 6.7.1
OS: Windows 2003

I have installed the MySQL DBI Driver for IWPERL on my Windows 2003 TeamSite box, but I am getting the following error when I access the DB thru a IPL file:

install_driver(mysql) failed: Can't locate DBD/mysql.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /iwhome/iw-perl/lib /iwhome/iw-perl/site/lib d:\iwhome\iw-perl\vendor\lib .) at (eval 3) line 3. Perhaps the DBD::mysql perl module hasn't been fully installed, or perhaps the capitalisation of 'mysql' isn't right.

But I am getting success message when I use the regular active perl to connect the MySQL DB.

Kindly advice/guide on how to make it work on the IWPERL?

Hi jstephan,

The lib directories for active perl and iwperl are different by default.

The error message indicates that it can't find the perl module "DBD/mysql.pm"

These are the folders that is is looking in for that module:

/iwhome/iw-perl/lib

/iwhome/iw-perl/site/lib
d:\iwhome\iw-perl\vendor\lib

Make sure "DBD/mysql.pm" is in one of these lib directories and not the active perl lib directory.

It's not just the PM files you have to copy over - DBI/DBD modules tend to have compiled code associated with them - and that code also needs to be accessible in the correct location.

If you were able to see the detailed output from an installation of the module for ActiveState - you should be able to figure out all the files and their respective locations that need to be copied.

Alternatively - remove the files you copied into the iwperl lib directories and try adding the ActiveState library paths to the end of your @INC path - and see if that works.

Is that because the iw-perl version is not compatible with the mysql drivers?

A pure Perl driver with no associated binaries.

I wasn't sure it would work - it was just a shot for what might work - since we don't know what version of ActiveState Perl you have, we don't know whether it is or is not compatible with iwperl - plus DBD modules like that generally expect to be "built" with the same Perl binary that they will be used with - which in this case wasn't true.

I think the pure-perl alternative that dazzlad referenced might be the better way to go (assuming that it is compatible with Perl 5.8.2 - which is the version of iwperl)

I installed the mysqlPP and it connects to DB, but the script hangs without processing to next step. Just the success message on the DB connection and no further processing.

I have ActivePerl 5.8.7 Build 813. Is this compatable with iw-perl?

I don't have issues when i use CALLSERVER method, having issues only in INLINE method. CALLSERVER prints the values from DB. The same code in inline function is not working!

Any idea? Please.

iwperl is 5.8.2 so it's a little bit older than your AS Perl - some modules may not be fully compatible.

Without seeing the code for both your scripts - If it works in one condition and not in another - usually that's indicative of environment variables needing to be set within a

BEGIN { ... };

block in the code - and that may still be the case. You could try dumping the environment list in both scripts (to a log file) - compare the results, and then try setting one or more of the missing environments explicitly within a BEGIN block in the script that doesn't work and see if that resolves the problem.
