Hey,

Error message failure: bytes-read=-1 bytes-expected=-1 means that OD is having a problem access the file.

It could be that TS is still updating the file.

Suggest the following:
1. Try Deployment once from edition
2. Put a 2 minutes before the external to trigger the workflow
2. use non-cach mount point...Refer:

As it is intermittent I'd be looking at load conditions when failure occurs.

Is there a pattern ?
Could it be at a hardware or I/O layer ?
Issue with SAN or Filer ?

its weird 24 out of 25 xml files deploy fine, but 1 keeps getting that error even if i wait 5/10 minute and try to deploy it again.

we havent had any hardware/SAN changes of late

any other thoughts/ideas? if the file is in use/open in a template is this the error u would expect? ive never seen this before!

Have you tried with above suggested solutions??

You are deploying from a workarea. OpenDeploy makes several passes before actually performing the deployment and if a file is changed between those passes you will get an error like this.
For this reason it is usually better to deploy from Staging or (better still) an Edition - as those tend to be far less volatile areas for the time-span of a deployment.
