Build

What does the build do ?

When I was trying to logon to TS server, I was unable to logon to it for almost whole day. Later on I came to know that developers were doing BUILD for almost whole day.

So whats this BUILD ? How does it keep the server busy (I guess it stops the TeamSite service)? Whats the result of Build ?

thanks

some training is in order.

There is no specific build utility in TeamSite but one can use something like Make if they so desire. What was going on your server ? No clue. Either it was something outside TeamSite (and you need to ask your developers - not us). Or someone had the system build the Search Index, which on a system with a lot of data could take several hours or even days.

There is a script in the iw-home/local/config/lib/content_center/livesite_customer_src directory call build.sh. This will build the Livesite application for use with TeamSite. You should not be using make_toolkit.ipl if you are in this directory.

Also, another possibility would be that your developers are performing a nightly/daily build of the application(s). They would need to compile any source codes from java, c, c++, etc.... and then build it for web application servers such as tomcat, web logic, websphere, etc.... Then they would need to place those compiled binaries into the right places. Building is a long process and you can see that there are many Release engineers position on the web.

Hi

In LiveSite we have a (build.bat and build .xml)(WINDOWS) file that executes make_toolkit.ipl.Basically whenever you create some stuff using Java etc and you try to incorporate that with the current TS/LS functionality, then you need to run that build. It include your work to its current functionality by placing required jar/class files/jsp to their exact position.

That build Restrart TS Services,Restrart the Tomcat,Register your chages,Reset UI.

In my project when i was integrating a java application,i need to run that build and it takes some time,so others of my team can not use TS at that moment.

noodle_eater2001 has already explained you so nicely in short.
