Generally, the terms are synonymous.

One might refer to the backing store is something like /iw-store or C:\iw-store and that the content store as "default". Other's might refer to both as being /iw-store/default or C:\iw-store\default.

The workflow store is generally at the same level as "default" within the /iw-store/ directory.

One can create multiple content stores but (at least at this time) there is only one workflow store for the entire TS server.

Adding to Adams answer, there is "iwadmin" which is part of iw-store and hold the workflows created by Workflow Modeller.
