DCT | Inline field | Inline IPL is working fine but data not coming on DCT

I have a DCT field (Multi Select List Box).

1.Data for this multi select will come from database.
2.I have a java code to create the "option" list tag with values for this list box.
3.This list box will be repeated on my 6 different DCT.
4.I thought to put in in IPL file and call the IPL file using "inline" in DCT.
5. Java file call is working perfectly fine and it populated the list box if I call the java code directly from DCT

I moved java file code to a IPL file (data.ipl)

Now when I execute ipl file separately its returning me the desired value ( select tag with option tags )

1. But these values are not appearing in DCT field when I call this IPL from DCT.
2. One more thing. If I append some hard coded "option" to $terr_list and these hard coded values appear on DCT.

I am thinking that somehow the DCT is not reading the value in $terr_list. Do I need to take care of "xml" tag etc ?

Any reason why this is happening ?

Hi Rohit,
Try to debug the ipl file and check what is going in.
As per my understanding it seems that problem in arranging the order of final output. So check it using debug the code.

Would you attach your DCT and ipl file? Because in your earlier posting it not showing complete code. So attach the file with .txt extension.

Put debugging / logging statements into your Perl script - and compare the results of running it from the command line and running it from within the DCT - nine times out of ten the problem is that the environment surrounding the running of the script from within the DCT is very sparse and missing at least one or two entries that are needed in order for the code to work correctly.

You can easily compare the environment by adding the following loop in your script (I'll assume that you can create your own "debug" subroutine for doing the logging):

You see lots of differences? I don't - I only see:

ENV  | command-line       | DCT
HOME | /export/home/user1 | /export/home/rpathak1
USER | user1              | rpathak1

I find it interesting that you have that much of an environment accessible to the script when it is run as an inline from within a DCT. I also find it interesting that the LOGNAME information is identical but the USER and HOME information differs.

Either you did something "wrong" in generating that information you posted or you don't have to worry about getting the environment variables passed through because they seem to be.
The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps you, when running the script from the command line, have access to some file on the server (DSN or similar) that the process owner (which seems to be you?) when the same script is run from an inline script, doesn't have access to?

before posting to devnet. I manually made the changes to log ( user1 and rpathak1 are same ...I had changed 'rpathak1' to 'user1' at one place but forgot to replace it at other place)

So are you now saying that you only see the bottom four environment variables when displaying all environment variables - when the script is run via the DCT?

If so, that's certainly more like what I expected you would see. As such you can experiment with explicitly setting some of the missing environment variables within a

BEGIN { ... };

block of code in your script, the one's I'd look at are: PATH; then PATH and LC_*. You can try to add more if those don't work, and if you get something working, you can try removing some to see if they were, in fact, needed.

Print your complete inline in the log and post it. Print everything that goes to STDOUT to the log.

I got similar issue with inline command where it is getting the environment variables empty.

We are calling inline command in the DCT as below
inline command="/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /iw-home/custom/bin/templating/micrositeList.ipl"

and when we try to retreive the value using the below code it is giving me null values.

my $dir = $ENV{IW_DCT};

Any other dependency do we have if we need to read the environment variables while using inline commands..
