Worksite slow to connect to registered servers..
System
Does anyone know what would cause the attached warning when opening Worksite integrated applications
The warning is "Please wait while trying to connect to the registered servers...."
It's not consistent but when it does happen the application takes a good 10 seconds longer to open.
We're 2 sites with middle tiers at both and the DB in one. This happens in both sites.
Anyone seen this before and what did you do to fix?
Thanks

Hi kswan, I have seen this problem caused for several reasons...
- How many libraries do you have? If you have plenty of them and are all of them confiugred in the Worksite Server as primary, the system will have to validate and login agaisnt all of them when opening an application.
- Your virus scanning can affect to the performance opening docs and applications, at this point it is few things what you can do.
- Network performance can affect connecting. Obviusly
- How many users are connected to the server?
- Do you use clustering for Worksite Server?
And I'm sure that there are more reasons that can affect to this.
Sorry for not been very helpfull...
Hope it helps

Hi Javi,
Thanks for the reply.
We've no clustering and there’s just over 100 users connecting to each server which are well spec'd.
You mention virus scanning, can you expand on this or advise best practise. We've followed the recommendations in Tech-note 72003-892 but that's made no difference. In testing we've also disabled Symantec Auto-Protect on clients but sill get connecting to servers
We do wonder why when we have Outlook open already and then open Word, it needs to connect/register with the servers? Shouldn't there already be a connection via Filesite in Outlook? Why does it not create a connection to Worksite with the first Worksite Integrated app you open and keep a connection open till you close the last Worksite integrated app?
Cheers

Regarding the connections, this is actually a good thing. Previously, the applications had to piggy-back off of the DeskSite or FileSite connections. If FileSite or DeskSite was not open, you needed to wait for them to open every time you launched an integrated application. The applications now make their own connection to the DMS Server via the COM object model. This is a much better model to have in many ways.
As for your connectivity issues. What other macros do you have with Word? What version (if any) of Delta View?

We have a few other templates loading but we're certain these aren't the issue as if we remove them we still get get "connecting to servers
Is there a way to make a permanent connection to Worksite the first time you open a Worksite Integrated app? Even it's when you open Outlook/Filesite as 99% of our users will open Outlook first and it's then open all day.
What's DeltaView?
Cheers

Re: perm connection, no. The code on Interwoven's side makes a connection for each application MSFT Office application that you open, Word, Excel, PPT.
You could use the "Delayed Login" feature. This does not make the connection in the integrated applications until you choose to do something involving WorkSite. Opening / saving a document. This isn't a very good option though, as it postpones the dialog until the users want to do something, adding frustration to that point rather than the beginning. I believe that what you want is a single dedicated "Channel" vs. multiple connections anyway. This isn't possible with the way that the product is currently designed.
