Sitewide LaunchPad setup?
mogoo
I'm confused... In the User's Guide, it says "Your site may be configured to allow you to only use one version of LaunchPad or the other", referring to applet vs. application. Then, in the Admin Guide, it says you set the default version in iw_cfg, but "Note that clients who use Netscape on the Macintosh or who have Java turned off in their browsers cannot use the applet. They will always use the application."
...OK, so which is it? Can you use both on one site -- some clients using the LP applet, some clients using the LP application, or are you restricted to one or the other for everybody?
(TS v5.0, Solaris)
Thanks,
maureen

This is a simple question, no? Let's say we have 100 teamsite users. Can 95 of them use the LaunchPad applet, and 5 of them use the LaunchPad application, or do all 100 have to use one or the other???

You can split them up. I was running the Java client for templating (purely by mistake) while everyone else was running the non-java client.
It's set under 'edit' at the bottom about selecting the UI.

Thanks bowker. But what you're talking about deals with templating; I'm talking about when you edit a non-templated file in teamsite. It downloads it to your computer via LaunchPad, from which you can use any editor. That's what my question is about -- we currently all use/iw.cfg is configured for the LP applet as the default.
I'm trying to configure some of our Macs use the LP application. The Macs keep crashing with the applet version; IW support has suggested trying the application instead. However, I can't seem to get a definate answer out of them to my question, and I'm wondering if their suggestion means we'd have to make everyone use the application version. I haven't had any luck -- I can't get the application version to work. I'm just wondering if it's because you can only have one or the other for all clients, or if I'm doing something wrong.
I thought I was asking a very simple, straightforward question. But I guess not. Anyone out there know?

Maureen, were you able to solve your Lanuchpad on Mac problem? We do have a similar problem with Mac and were wondering if you could give some suggestions.
LauchPad Applet works fine in Windows machines, but on Mac it's got different behaviors on the Netscape and IE. Netscape on OS X opens client app on OS 9 and IE on OS X opens the applet for 'List Local Files' and 'LaunchPad Setup' but not for 'Import Files' and 'Edit File'
The TeamSite admin manual says: "The native application launchpad is used when using Netscape on the Mac". If so, is there a new version of LaunchPad, ours sometime goes to the old LaunchPad (LaunchPad 4.2.1) or crashes the browser.
Would appreciate if anybody else has any suggestions for the problem.
Settings:
use_launchpad_applet=true in iw.cfg
Java turned on in Browsers
TeamSite 5.5.2 on Solaris
Thanks
