Teamsite 6.1 - Running OD as non-root

Hi, I'm using OpenDeployUX4.5 and running it as a non-root user on the endpoint. I can start it up and have confirmed it's listening on bothe the SSL and non SSL ports. The correct keys are in place but when running a userpush from the master the top directory is created on the endpoint but nothing else. The job outputs the following

ERROR: Could not get file data(./filename) from socket.

which has a possible Cause:Need to run OD as root.

We are using Teamsite 6.1, does anyone know if it's possible to run opendeploy as a non-root user with this version or whether I'll need to upgrade to 6.7? Thanks in advance.

What is OpenDeployUX4.5?
Do you mean OpenDeploy 4.5 on Unix?
OpenDeploy 4.5 is ancient (well over 5 years old) - if that's what you're using you should upgrade ASAP and then see if you still have issues.

Another thing is that in the current versions of OpenDeploy - the deploy.cfg file has a setting for teamsite.version which should be set to the appropriate version of your TeamSite.

Your right it is ancient and the upgarde process is something that is being looked at though with 1000's of applications it's a drawn out process. All I wanted to know was whether with our version it was mandatory to run the client process as root when the od-admin role is set to root on the master?

You need to remember, this version of OD is about 9 years old. I do not remember it well enough to know if it had the non-root option at that time. Dig through the manuals and see if it give you that choice. I *think* non-root deployments came later.

You're confusing TS version numbers with OD version numbers.

iwodnonroot was, I believe, introduced in OpenDeploy 5.6. The current release of OpenDeploy is 6.2.x

OpenDeploy 4.5 was a completely different model and I'm pretty sure it required root to own the server process.
