Hi,

I had different levels of workarea based on language, country and state. Now the requirement is to update a DCR on Save to all the below level workareas.

Could any one suggest me ways to implement as how to figure out as how many WORKAREAs are under the specific working BRANCH / WORKAREA ??

EN --> US --> CA
--> UK --> London_City

As per the given example, if user creates a DCR on EN level, it should be updated to US and CA as well as UK and London_City and to every other Branch/Workarea which are a child to EN Workarea.

I think You can use workflow.

In this you have to take one branch as base. Here when you submit dcr in one branch it should copy to all English Branches using workflow.

What i understand is that you have a scenario like

Branch A
-WorkArea-1
---templatedata
-----category-1
------datatype-1
--------data
----------dcr-1
-WorkArea-2
---templatedata
-----category-1
-------datatype-1
---------data
-----------dcr-1
-WorkArea-3
---templatedata
------category-1
--------datatype-1
----------data
------------dcr-1

If user update dcr-1 in WorkArea-1,then as per your requirement the same dcr-1 should also be updated in WorkArea-2,WorkArea-3.

I have done a similar thing using workflow,what i have done is:

Design a workflow having URLExternalTask which invoke an java class ,the
class get the current selected files,update them to the other workarea if already present else copy them to other workareas with same folder hierachy.

The Java code uses the CLT:: iwupdate.exe with areavpath option.It works fine.

May be it can give you some pointer.

Perhaps I misread something - but I saw the original question as:

(since workareas can not be under another workarea, the last part of the quote doesn't make sense)

To that end - I again point out that reading the perldoc on TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

irwalk is a good place to start - either that or using iwlist within a looping process (Dirwalk will probably be more efficient though).

Actually if it's just one branch (and not sub-branches) - doing a simple opendir/readdir (with grep) would probably suffice:

my $branch = deterine_current_branch_path;
opendir(DIR, "$branch/WORKAREA") || die $!;
my @was = grep { !/^\./ && -d "$branch/WORKAREA/$_" } readdir(DIR);
closedir(DIR);
...
