Date field in a DCT

khalid1

Is it possible to create a data capture item called 'Date' and prepopulate it with the current date. So when the author creates a new DCR, the field Date shows up on the DCT and is pre-populated with current date.

Date:

Is there some function provided by interwoven which I can call ?
Thanks for all the help in advance.

If you are using TeamSite / TeamSite Templating 5.5.2 - you can take advantage of FormAPI in your DCT to do things like this.

If you are using earlier versions of TeamSite / TeamSite Templating, you can use inline scripts (you can use them in 5.5.2 also, but FormAPI is more powerful)

Another useful technique is to use a cgi callout with a date calendar. You can find one already built on the support site (http://support.interwoven.com). Im sure its here somewhere aswell. This callout can preselect today's date for you, but it doesnt get away from not needing to interacting with the field.

I use a combination of a textbox which is populated with today's date (inline cmd) and a cgi-callout that calls a calendar pop-up. I then use a regular expression to validate the date. Here is the DCT snippet:

Date

Enter date here. e.g., 8/19/2002.

<text required="t" size="10" maxlength="10" validation-regex="^((0?[1-9])|1[0-2])\/((0?[1-9])|[1-2][0-9]|3[0-1])\/(19|20)[0-9]{2}$">
<inline command="iwperl /iw-home/custom/bin/format_date.ipl 2"/>
<cgi-callout url="/iw-bin/custom/templating/date_calendar.cgi" label="Change Date" window-features="width=185,height=204,resizable=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=no,titlebar=no"/>
</text>

I've also attached the two scripts that are referenced. The first, format_date.ipl, is the callout that will populate the field if it is not filled in. The second script is the calendar which is invoked from the cgi-callout. The stylesheet that the calendar references is also in the zip. You'll have to change the paths in the DCT and the cgi-callout script to reflect your environment.

I just developed a calendar myself, but I would like to see this one as mine is somewhat lacking.
Unfortunately I can't find it. Does anyone know where I can download this calendar?

(If anyone has seen it, do you know if you can change the year? That is functionality that our calendar requires.)

I attached the calendar in my previous post. I modified it to my liking since the original didn't do exactly what I wanted and it needed a bit of visual enhancement.

Can you please expand? or point me in the right direction?

today.setDate( today.getDate() + number );
return(( today.getMonth() + 1 ) + "/" + today.getDate() + "/" + today.getYear());

var item = IWDatacapture.getItem( "/Container/DateField" );

In the DCR, dates are passed through ipl to set the date to current date. I want to implement the calendar control to what we have existing. This is what I have in the DCR, but the "view calendar" button is not showing up. Why? Please advise.

Release Date

Date/Time format is MM-DD-YYYY HH:MM (Military Time). This is the date and time the content will go live.

<text required="t">
<cgi-callout
url="/iw-bin/callouts/calendar.ipl"
label="View Calendar"
window-features="width=200,height=230,resizable=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=no,titlebar=no"/>
<database data-type="DATETIME" data-format="MM-DD-YYYY HH:MM" />
</text>

jbonifaci

Just a thought, move your <database> element outside of the <text> element:

Release Date

Date/Time format is MM-DD-YYYY HH:MM (Military Time). This is the date and time the content will go live.

<database data-type="DATETIME" data-format="MM-DD-YYYY HH:MM" />
<text required="t">
<cgi-callout
url="/iw-bin/callouts/calendar.ipl"
label="View Calendar"
window-features="width=200,height=230,resizable=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=no,titlebar=no"/>
</text>

aces

Actually this works...

Release Date

Date/Time format is MM-DD-YYYY HH:MM (Military Time). This is the date and time the content will go live.

<text required="t">
<cgi-callout url="/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/z_calendar.ipl" label="View Calendar" window-features="width=200,height=230,resizable=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=no,titlebar=no"/>
<database data-type="DATETIME" data-format="MM-DD-YYYY HH:MM" />
</text>

But I want to disable the text field so user cannot edit it and force them to use the calendar control.

jbonifaci

If you're using the latest version of TeamSite, you should be able to accomplish this using FormAPI.

If not or if your main concern is the format of the date, you could use a regex statement to validate it. However if you want it to be a date in the future, that's a bit beyond a validation-regex statement. If you want to go with the validation-regex approach, the regex below will match any date from january 1st, 2000 until december 31st, 2099, accounting for leap years as well.

<text required="t" size="16" maxlength="16" validation-regex="^((((01|03|05|07|08|10|12)-((0[1-9])|([12][0-9])|(3[01])))|((04|06|09|11)-((0[1-9])|([12][0-9])|(30)))|(02-((0[1-9])|(1[0-9])|(2[0-8]))))-20[0-9][0-9])|(02-29-20(((04|08))|((2|4|6|8)(0|4|8))|((1|3|5|7|9)(2|6)))) ((((0[1-9])|(1[0-9])|(2[0-3])) Smiley Sad

[0-5][0-9]))|(00 Smiley Sad

(0[1-9])|([1-5][0-9])))|(24:00))$">

I just typed out the regex, so it's not tested, but it should work.

Is there a place where I can test validation-regex stmt?

jbonifaci

I just tested the one I posted and it appears to work perfectly. But there are a few simple ways to test it:

1) You can try it out in the DCT itself, or a test DCT.

2) Create a simple perl script that you can run from the command line:

#!d:\iw-home\iw-perl\bin\iwperl
if (@ARGV[0] =~ /^((((01|03|05|07|08|10|12)-((0[1-9])|([12][0-9])|(3[01])))|((04|06|09|11)-((0[1-9])|([12][0-9])|(30)))|(02-((0[1-9])|(1[0-9])|(2[0-8]))))-20[0-9][0-9])|(02-29-20(((04|08))|((2|4|6|8)(0|4|8))|((1|3|5|7|9)(2|6)))) ((((0[1-9])|(1[0-9])|(2[0-3])) Smiley Sad

[0-5][0-9]))|(00 Smiley Sad

(0[1-9])|([1-5][0-9])))|(24:00))$/)
{
print "valid";
}
else
{
print "invalid";
}

You would then test this from the command line like this:

>test.ipl "02-29-2003 12:00"
invalid
>test.ipl "02-29-2004 12:00"
valid

3) Create a simple cgi and put it in iw-bin:

#!d:\iw-home\iw-perl\bin\iwperl

use strict;
use CGI;
my $page = new CGI;
print $page->header;
my $date = $page->param('date');
my $me = $ENV{'SCRIPT_NAME'};

print <<HTML;

Date Regex Test

HTML

if ($date =~ /^((((01|03|05|07|08|10|12)-((0[1-9])|([12][0-9])|(3[01])))|((04|06|09|11)-((0[1-9])|([12][0-9])|(30)))|(02-((0[1-9])|(1[0-9])|(2[0-8]))))-20[0-9][0-9])|(02-29-20(((04|08))|((2|4|6|8)(0|4|8))|((1|3|5|7|9)(2|6)))) ((((0[1-9])|(1[0-9])|(2[0-3])) Smiley Sad

[0-5][0-9]))|(00 Smiley Sad

(0[1-9])|([1-5][0-9])))|(24:00))$/)
{
print " valid
\n";
}
else
{
print " invalid
\n";
}

print <<HTML;

HTML

Then call it with this url: http://<server>/iw-bin/test.cgi

Hope this helps,
Jeff Bonifaci

Here's a control I put together based on one I got from Interwoven. I've used Firebug to debug it so it's standards compliant (according to Firebug, anyhow), working under IE 6 and Firefox 1.5. It also should work both on a metadata capture form or a normal DCT.

It still isn't as tidy as it could be - I have a project to work on ;-)

Hope it's of some use to someone out there. Please shout out if there are any bugs, or if you make any improvements to this script.

Just another thought:

when will Iwov supply a ready-made, *supported*, easy-to-use Date/Calendar field build into TS-Templating?

As you know, TS Calendar widget exists, pretty good one too.
If your environment allows it, it's not a big deal to hack date widget to use in DCTs.
Widget is not open for developers though, so no documentation and no support.
