problem with opening files from desksite
System
Hi there,
Basically, I'm having a problem with desksite and opening files from desksite. The situation at the moment is that our installation of interwoven is functioning correctly, but when I double-click on a file in the document worklist (to open it in MS Word) there is a problem in that Word opens, displays some messages about macros, etc, and then gives me the following error message:
"Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions:
Check the file permissions for the document or drive (file permissions should be set by interwoven) Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space (lots of free space, 5 gig or so) Open the file with the Text Recovery converter" (this wouldn't really help, we're looking for automatic document opening from desksite)
This is the only time there is a problem. I am able to check out a document and then open it by double-clicking on the file on the desktop, I am able to use quickview to view the document, and I am able to find the file which has been saved in the NRPortBl directory in the C: drive (after I double-click on the file in the d. worklist and get nothing), double-click it and open that file. All very strange - there is obviously some linkage error between interwoven desksite and MS word - if you could shed any light on what is happening, I would really appreciate it.
Cheers
Andy

Andy,
Check your application setup in both dbadmin and in DeskSite / FileSite "Options, Local Applications".
Ensure that the integration is set to COM, assuming Office XP or higher but not 2007. Also ensure that if the DDE box is checked, the calls displayed match this technote:

I'm guessing either the apps are set to be macro integrated, or, the dde settings are way off.
You could also try to just disable (uncheck) the dde box. This can cause issues with some macros, but seems to work fine in most cases. In any case, it's a way to take DDE out of the equation when troubleshooting.
Finally, you may want to check for the presence of the imanoxp.dll on your machine (if office xp, 2003). If it's not there, that's a different ball game.
Hope this helps

Carbon, thou art a legend! Cheers mate, my settings were all correct as in that url you sent apart from that it was set to ODMA integration rather than COM integration. One small question which you may be able to clear up - Now when I double-click to open a file, it doesn't check it out - it just opens a copy. However, when I rightclick and go to 'check out' and use integrated check out, nothing happens - the red tick appears beside the document, but nothing else. I would imagine what should happen is that word opens up with the document ready for editing...can you suggest anything??
Again, thanks mate - that was stumping me for ages!

Uncheck DDE on the app settings and see if that helps. Obviously you'll want to do this on one machine, so go to "Options", "Local Applications", and import Word, Excel, PPT, if they don't exist. Then Uncheck DDE for those apps and retest.
