Hello,

We have a requirement to disable Tiny's HTML editor for all users except administrators. Is there a way to do disable buttons based on a user's role?

Use an inline to write the substitution tag and change the external config entry based on their Role. I think you should be able to get that basic user information. you probably have to then check the users role(s) using the CLT.

I do not remember their being any formAPI to change the config on the fly.

Do you know how to change the config entries after they've already been registered? I don't see any way to remove or edit entries, only add them.

I am not exactly sure what you mean. you would create (for example) 2 separate configurations in your custom_config.js and have your inline load the proper one. any of the the buttons can be added or removed in the config.

I know we could determine the users role within the DCT however, I'm unsure how you would pass the determined role into the "inline command" call script to create the desired external config entry. Is there another way to determine the user roles outside the DCT and within the script called by the "inline command"?

Certainly that is easy. The inline is a perl script.

you should be able to use the following to achieve what you want.. What Andy said was correct, but if you want to utilize Flex Roles, the below code will take care of that..
