importing metadata options

Greetings,

I know there have been some posts somewhat similar to this; but what we need to do is import a list of options into an already-existing custom metadata field.

What we are dealing with is csv or text file that will list about 100 options from some of these custom fields. They would then show to the user in a list/drop-down format.

What is the best/easiest way to approach importing them to a specified custom metadata field?

By using MB API.

With MB Webservices API you can use something like GetMetadata or ExportMetadataDefinition and ImportMetadataDefinition.

To be more explicit, if you export a piece of metadata with a list of choices you will see that the XML Mediabin uses to describe metadata fields is pretty simple. You would then need to employ some program that will convert from csv, or straight text to the appropriate XML. It may be easiest to export the list of choices to another XML format and then use an XSLT transform to put things into a form MB can understand.
