Calling Java Function From Perl Script

Hi,

We have a requirement to execute a Java function from Perl script. Where the Java class will return some values which want to use in Perl script.

Can someone provide me pointers on this. Appreciate your help.

I am using TS6.7.1 on Solaris10.

That's a very strange requirement.
You could probably write whatever the java function does as perl.
You could probably write the perl script as java.
Ultimately, I believe, if you really want to do this - you need to construct the full command line for executing a java program that will execute the java function and run it via qx() [or backticks] and assign the output to a perl variable.

Personally, I'd want to know a heck of a lot more about this java function and perl script before I made a decision as to whether it makes sense to honor this "requirement"

Indeed, I agree with Adam, This is vague, you can run java to have that code return you some thing and then use that in perl to process furthur, You need to have set you Java Env right and should be able to get a output when you run it.

After this part is comple, think about ways to capture that in any file or return statement so on. Once you have that in a file or in Perl varaible, it will be lot more easy to access it.

Hi,

As per my understanding you want execute Java Class from your perl program.
it can be done using system or `` command of perl.
here is the example.

Method 1

$program = "java test";
$result = system($program) ;

Method 2

$result = `$program`;

before doing this you have to set the java environment in Solaris and export the JAVA_HOME.

i think this will solve your problem

But this still begs the question, why would you want to do this? You could probably write whatever functions the java program is doing in perl, unless you don't want to port the java code to perl code.

Thanks for all; the Reason why wanted to call java function from Perl script was we have already existing functionality available in java, So we thought we can reuse that functionality.

We have written whatever java does in Perl. So now we don’t need to call java function from Perl script. Anyway I don’t find anyway to call java function from Perl, but I think it is bit easy to call Perl script from java function.
