Hi all,
We are working on a use case where we need to check feasibility of using Storage Area Network and Content Delivery Network along with Mediabin(4.6.2).
Can anyone throw some light on this.
Have some worked on similar scenario in past?

You can have all the MB assets on SAN and you can use MB Deployment Agent to push assets out to a CDN. The more info that you can provide me on what you are trying to accomplish the more info I can provide you.

1.Requirement is like, certain digital assets needs to be saved on SAN and others on CDN. Mediabin will be used as a common interface to do so.
2.Will Teamsite allow to browse the digital assets from CDN and SAN? Because the metadata and other content related to digital assets needs to be updated in portal database. So that portal can pick up the content, metadat, and assetpath from DB display everything along with digital asset on poratsl page.

Would really appreciate some pointers.

I am not sure I get what you are trying to do. When you say "saved" does it mean that you want assets delivered from MB to SAN and CDN?

MB is ideally the central repository to manage all your digital assets. You can have all the assets in MB and push assets to SAN and CDN.

There is no connector for TeamSite to browse CDN. You can use the standard browse feature in TS and get assets from SAN if you have it mapped as a drive.

TeamSite does have a connector to MB and you can always use that to get the assets out of MB and then push it out to SAN or CDN.

As you are asking solution architecture questions I want you to be a little cautious and think through things. This is not something new and has been done before....the good way and the headache way.

Bear in mind that the MB Deployment Agent does not come with MB by default and you have to make your sales guy happy.

2. If SAN is configured as storage space for MB, will I be able to browse the digital assets present on SAN in TS using ECM connector?

3. I need to save the metadata, path etc. for all digital assets in portal Database, so that portal can pick it up.

4. If deployment agent needs license then I need to rethink of using it.

All the above is possible but I don't understand your use case for deployment to SAN. Is it for storage purposes or is there any other requirement that assets will be picked up by some other system from the SAN location?

You can use ECM Connector and push assets and metadata out using OD/DD

Deployment Agent is a separate license as mentioned above. In lieu of that you can write your own scripts to do what it does and run them on a schedule

Hi Srinivas,
I am sorry for my mistake about your name.
Currently I am planning to use SAN as a storage for MB. I still want to browse those assets in TS because there will be some relevent content to be captured, which will be saved in Database. From DB content along with the asset path will be picked up by web portal, using path asset will be accessed from SAN storage.
For CDN, I am planning to mount it on TS server (Solaris), so that asstes will be browsed within TS to capure the relevent content.
Thus web portal will be able to pick assets from SAN and CDN as per the data in the database.

Hi. To be clear, assets within MediaBin are not set up to be directly browseable. MediaBin stores things in a backing store in an internal representation. Usually people combine MediaBin and TeamSite by deploying the images to a staging area which is a filesystem.

Deployment Agent is a separately installed application.

That is very helpful information. We will deploy assets from MB using TS to SAN or CDN from where they will be available to portal.
