How does TS know I've timed out?
Bowker
I'm trying to figure out how TS (v 5.5.2 on w2k server, nt4 workstation) knows when I've timed out. The cookies are still there. The IW_AUTH cookie string, when passed into iwuser, returns a valid user definition - even DAYS after it hasn't been used.
The best I've come up with is checking that iw_auth exists and is valid then checking recent users. Unfortunately if I use my machine on my desk today and a different desk tomorrow then return to my desk I've really timed out at that machine, but my method doesn't think so.
So how the heck does TS know?

My guess is your session has timed out. Even though you still have your authorization cookie, if your session times out you would lose your application variables stored on the server.
I don't have anything to base this on, it's just a guess.

How can I tell that from an application that runs on that server? Any guess?

Unfortunately, I don't think you can. Sessions time out because they can't really know when the user closes the browser or leaves the application.
My experience in this comes from ASP pages and the session object. It may or may not act the same in TeamSite.
