Permission at Folder Level

Hello All,

-I have 2 folders folder1 & folder2 in a same work area but they are different category.
-I have 2 users Folder1user and folder2user
-I wan't Folder1user can access only folder1 and folder2user can access only folder2 How can I achieve this.

What I have done up to now is...

Change the templating.cfg
category name="Folder1">

and second thing I am also handling them from administrator tab....but either I am not acievieng it fully or If its working like Folder1user can not see folder2 and can go in to folder1 but it does not have right to edit or newfile and other modifications in Folder1.....

What is the permission you have set on the branch and workarea? Are these two users the only users who should have access to this workarea?
Ideally, you should have different workarea for users who should only have access to it to maintain modularity and scalability.
You may have to give individual folder level permission and try with it.

No Admin is also a user and many other can also access this work area...Ideally which role I have to provide them...I mean both the user???

Do you want user1 to have readonly access to folder1 and
user2 to have readonly access to folder2 ?
You can grant author/editor roles to these users with ReadOnly(RX) permissions.

no I want full access of user1 to folder1 andusre2 folder2...and user1 can only have access to folder1 and not the other one....same for user 2 too..while I also tried them by keeping both of them to one group and then give permission in work area...and then user 1 to one group which have full permissions in folder1...and user2 in other group..which have total permissions of folder2....but then also it did'nt work.. Smiley Sad

Can we resist any user to enter in one folder and he can access the other folder in the same work area? I mean inside a work area can we make folders which are accesaable to specified folder only and he sholud have all rights for that folder and will not have any right for other folders in the same branch and in the same work area...??

Access Permissions could only be defined at Workarea or Branch level.

In case of access permissions 'No'. However, in case you need to restrict user to initiate the workflow from the specified folder, it could be acheived in TS 6.7.x.

Hope this clarifies further.

Ya thanks alot Kalraa..but If I have to design some structure where for example Languges are superset and then countries(Locales) are the sub set of languages and then the Sites are the sub set of countries(Locales), and we want that one user can access only one site of the one country of single language...then for this we have to go by which structure approach...??

My suggestion would be to go with the Branch and Sub-Branch approach with sites as workarea for specified user/groups.

Language should be the branch and Country should be sub-branch.

You most certainly CAN grant access rights on files and folders within a workarea. Look at documentation regarding submit.cfg and various threads within these forums.

Look at the folowing steps.....

1. Create a group: jp_english

2. Created two users: inuser1 and inuser2

3. Made inuser1 and inuser2 part of jp_english group as follows:

Go to Administrator tab->Roles and Permission->Manage Groups->and then add both the users to group jp_english.

4. Defined a branch "brportal" with following users and roles settings:

Add Users as Roles-> add the group jp_english as Editor

5. Created a workarea ‘english’ under "brportal" with following permissions.
Sharing: group
Owner: Administrator
Group: jp_english

6. Workarea permissions are as follows:
Add Permission->
Administrator Full Control
jp_english Full Control
Everyone ReadOnly

7. Created one folder ‘user1’ under workarea. Removed all local and inherited permissions and set permission as follows:

Add Permissions->
inuser1 Full Control
Administrator Full Control

8. Created another folder ‘user2’ under same workarea. Removed all local and inherited permissions and set permission as follows:

Add Permissions->
inuser2 Full Control
Administrator Full Control

9. Logged in as inuser1. User can only access folder ‘user1’. Folder ‘user2’ is greyed out:

It should probably work, but it should also be easy enough for you to follow the information in akashmishra17's post from 10-14-2008 03:34 AM and verify it yourself.
